Felandes Survives Malnutrition!

A one year old little boy came to our nurse for help in May. He was severely malnourished and anemic and needed in-patient malnutrition care and additional medical care. We were able to use our ambulance to get him immediate medical attention in Jacmel, the nearest city that is 3 hours away. After they determined they couldn’t give him the help he needed, Haiti Air Ambulance flew him to another facility across the country for further help.

Felandes’s mother stayed with him while he got the care he needed. For the first two weeks it was unclear whether he would survive or not. But he pulled through! After he was done with his treatment we transported him home and gave his family livestock as part of our follow-up program! Livestock is a major business in this part of Haiti and having livestock to breed and sell is a huge advantage. His father couldn’t say thank you enough as he left the clinic with his healthy son and a new business opportunity to help provide for his family.

Felandes is now in our out-patient program where he will come once a week to check in with a nurse and get his malnutrition treatment, Medika Mamba, so he can continue to overcome malnutrition once and for all.

Last month a mother and father had no hope for their son, but today they went home together, with a community of nurses and new friends to support them on their journey to beat malnutrition.

This is why we exist.

THANK YOU for your support!
